If Clause Type 0
We learn if clause type 0. This type then shows a fact, as well as a definite event that produces a certain thing. In this type the tenses used are the simple present tense.
- here are the types of if clause type 0
a. Fact or general truth
ex: If you are tired, you go to bed early
b. Habit/routine
ex: If you are tired, you go to bed early.
c. preference
ex: If you are tired, you go to bed early.
d. Rule/instruction/suggestion/offer
ex: If you don't want your orchids to die, don't forget to take care of it.
e. Superstition
ex: If you put orchids in your house, it will take your energy away.
The following is an example of the dialogue:
Bima: Hi, Cicin Aidan. What are you doing?
Cicin: Hi, Bima. we're making some sealing wax.
Bima: You make it by yourself? Wow! What is this?
Aidan: It’s a wax. If you heat the wax, it melts.
Bima: It’s interesting. Let me try it.
Aidan: Sure. By the way, it’s Sunday. Don’t you usually call your brother in New York?
Bima: Yeah, but it’s only 2 p.m. If it’s 2 p.m. in Jakarta, it’s 3 a.m. in New York.
Aidan: Oh, I see. Do you miss him?
Bima: Yes. we usually watch football on TV every Saturday night if I do not fall asleep.
Cicin: Anyway, do you prefer to drink coffee or milk?
Aidan: if you give me a choice i would like to drink milk cause it's sweet
Cicin: I will buy some milk
Bima: I suggest you to go to the traditional market if you want a lower price
Cicin: okay thankyou I will tell my helper
Bima: by the way have you heard the superstition? If you whistle it will summon the ghost
Aidan: Really? Then I stop whistling from now on
Bima: no you can't believe in that thing because superstition not our religion
